Owls Nest Farm has been a part of our family...
Owls Nest Farm has been a part of our family since we got married in 2018. As a newly married couple, we were excited to find Owls Nest Farm and join a group of people who value fresh, local food the same way we do. I mean, there's nothing better than a summer day where you are chopping a ton of fresh tomatoes, peppers, and basil for a panzanella salad with a peach cobbler baking in the oven.
One of our favorite memories of our CSA is coming home with our haul with our first daughter, Ellie, who at the time was one year old. We had just set her down on the kitchen floor and asked her to put all of the tomatoes into a basket. We started chopping and prepping the veggies we got, and at some point turned around -- Ellie had taken a bite of every tomato in the basket and was covered in tomato juice.
Now we have two kids and, even as busy parents, we make sure it is part of our ritual to "go to the farm" every Tuesday (even though it's actually Annie's ACE Hardware in Brookland). Over the years, as we've added daycare and school pickups into our routine, our cooking has come to rely more heavily on crockpot meals and quick dinners. However, factoring our CSA goodies into our weekly meal plan has become a habit and is a fun way to keep us creative in our cooking. Our children are adventurous and open to new foods because they love our CSA trips and meeting the people who grow our food. We are so grateful for our CSA membership!
