The Chapman Family
What's one of the most memorable meals you've made with Owl's Nest produce?
There are too many meals to choose from! Among our favorites is pulling together a big roasted "bowl" or cozy soup with a delicious mix of veggies from the farm, our mushroom add-on, Purple Mountain Grown grains and jamy eggs from Open Book Farm. Our kiddos (9 and 6) say: "anything with Owl's Nest bok choy, carrots or cucumbers!"
What keeps you returning year after year?
We started at Owls Nest in 2017. We tried a number of CSAs over the years and Owls Nest is by far our favorite: the quality of the vegetables week after week, regular communication, and the variety of options at our pick up. In this day in age, it's special for us and our kids to know where our food comes from. It's not some mystery corporation -- it's Liz, Rue, Erin and the team.
What are some tips you'd give to other CSA members to make sure they have a great experience?
Embrace the choices! Owl's Nest is unique in that you're able to choose each week and you can vary your choices, though you'll find it's going to be hard to pass on the pea shoots! The half share option gives us flexibility too, as we travel a bit. We rearrange our pickups based on our travel schedule and we're able to take full advantage of fresh, local veggies!
How has your cooking changed over the years? What role has your CSA membership played?
We've become more focused on reducing waste. Finding new recipes or figuring out how best to pair the different veggies from one pick up. It's much higher stakes to waste any of our Owl's Nest veggies than when we lose track of boxed lettuce from a big supermarket.
And our kids have gotten involved: "I love making bok choy and scrambled eggs with my mom and dad!"
