I joined the Owl's Nest Farm CSA in 2020, inspired by the wave of folks looking to make an impact in their local community in the midst of a global pandemic. I liked that it was woman-owned (and now worker-owned!), and it seemed like an interesting way to consume more vegetables. I've stayed because it's been both of those things and more.** I am excited when I get my email about what's in my share that week.** And I talk about this CSA enough that friends and family all the way in Cleveland know the farmers' names and share in my excitement when I have a pickup.
Being in the CSA has forced me to become a more adventurous cook. I have an idea of what's coming each season, but there are always pleasant surprises along the way. Before joining, I had no idea what a ground cherry was, or how to make it into a salsa to go with fish. I had also never made my own kimchi, which I now look forward to every year. I post my dinner creations on Instagram a lot, and it fills me with pride to be able to tag Owl's Nest Farm when I use their delicious veggies.
I know I'll keep coming back as long as I'm in the area because the value is good. I get to support local farmers, expand my palate, challenge myself in the kitchen, and eat really well.
